I’m a midwife with many years experience. As well as being a Registered Nurse I have an Advanced Diploma in Midwifery, an Adult Teaching Certificate and hold The Hypnotherapy Certificate from the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.
In 1993 I set up and developed Aquanatal Exercise classes in Jersey, where, in addition to physical preparation for childbirth I taught relaxation and breathing techniques to encourage natural childbirth. As a result I was approached in December 2002 by a mum-to be who had heard of “HypnoBirthing” – she became the first woman in Jersey to give birth using HypnoBirthing and my inspiration to introduce the programme to Jersey.
In 2003 I became a Certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner and together with my midwifery experience, have taught this original and unique method of childbirth preparation to over 1500 mums-to-be and their birth partners. I am delighted that as a result of this success not only are more women choosing HypnoBirthing as preparation for childbirth, but midwifery colleagues are supporting in home and hospital births and also offering HypnoBirthing programmes in other venues.
I have worked as a midwife for 43 years, having recently retired from permanent employment, I continue to be a practising midwife covering colleagues who are on leave.
I am committed to promoting natural birthing and my aim is for more mums to experience safe, calm and satisfying births.
I’m happily married, have 2 sons and live in St Brelade.
